Within the region, Shanghai's proportion of the area's FDI has been dropping - Zhejiang, and to a slightly lesser extent Jiangsu, have been taking a significantly larger share. So investors are heading inland. This is partly for cost reasons, partly to find a wider supplier base, partly to be where their competitors are, but also partly because they are not always so export-focused as in the past.
