Two year countdown to the Olympics - Beijing works on infrastructure improvements

With the 2008 Olympics now less than two years away, the capital is working hard on its infrastructure. On 9 August, the new 28km subway line from Dongzhimen to Beijing Capital International Airport began construction, and is scheduled to ready by 1 April 2008. It is certainly needed - a week before a sudden heavy downpours of rain paralysed the city’s roads, backing up traffic for about 15km in the city’s northeast.
