Readers interested in this subject may wish to access the November 2006 issue of the China Briefing magazine (archives section, button on top of page) in which I compared the costs of manufacturing in six central Chinese cities (Changsha, Hefei, Nanchang, Taiyuan, Wuhan & Zhengzhou) with the three main port cities (Beijing / Tianjin Shanghai, & Guangzhou). The entire overhead breakdowns, analysis and comparisons I carried out on them are within that issue.

I agree totally with you! The efforts from the Chinese government to develop inland areas will only pay off, if they develop their infrastructure accordingly. Tax incentives may be a good reward but logistics, talented people, communication, etc... are also in the balance when you look for a place.
