Communist Tax Lawyer website on the way

Mar. 15 - Well, the cat got out of the bag…for all those who have been wondering about the Communist Tax Law site, it seems curiosity killed the cat and certain people have  leaked details of the website, which forces us to tell all before the planned May 1 launch date, which is a bit unfortunate.

Anyway, to prevent any misunderstandings, the Communist Tax Lawyer site will deal with investment law and taxes in communist countries, and ex-communist states. Certain aspects of doing business in these countries have similar themes, and it takes a certain type of business approach to deal with law and financing in regimes that are experiencing shifts from communist based legal systems to capitalist models. This site aims to provide a forum to discuss these matters and to introduce professionals dealing in this fascinating area of developing law to each other and to build an online community of people with similar expertise but doing so in very diverse locations.

The site will feature forums specifically dedicated to business, politics, and investment in Cuba, China, Russia, North Korea and Vietnam, as well as Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. Contributors include international lawyers experienced in dealing with business from these countries and regions, and include people writing from Moscow, Beijing, Miami, Pyongyang, Almatay, Prague, Budapest, Hanoi and St. Petersburg amongst others from a network of professionals we have already developed.

We have some cool avatars laid on for people to choose from in the forums, and a general “Bear Pit” open forum for inter-country discussions. A range of merchandise featuring some of the artwork we’ve been using will also be available.

We hope that you find the site a collective forum to discuss matters of law, tax and importantly which bars to hang out in when in Beijing, Moscow, Pyongyang, Havana and elsewhere (the North Korean dark beer at the Koryo Hotel in Pyongyang, for example, is really very good). Lawyers, after all, have been known to have a tipple or two, and we’ll provide the low down on the places to go to when visiting these destinations.

Anyone NOT wanting to continue to receive the weekly communist artwork teaser flyers that have been doing the rounds (different themes each week) until the launch can email to communisttaxlawyer@live.com and you’ll be immediately removed from the mailing list.

Anyone who wishes to discuss being a guest contributor to the site’s forums, or wishes to promote suitable businesses or publications for related topics may also contact us via communisttaxlawyer@yahoo.com for details.

In the meantime, we still have a lot of work to do to get the site ready - the May 1 launch date remains when the site will be open for all to see.

Well that sounds like an interesting concept. I thought your email teasers from the old Communist propaganda posters were neat as well. Why didn’t anyone think of comparing ex-Communist countries laws before - it seems an obvious step to take. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out - good luck with it!

  2. Chris Wardle Says:

Who leaked it? That was a bit mean especially when it’s still 6 weeks away from opening.

  3. Mark Pegler Says:

Looking forward to it, it sounds a neat idea linking these communities.

  4. Steven Rocwsyski Says:

Great idea. I am looking forward to it. If you REALLY wanted to keep it a secret, why did you not privatize your ownership of the domain name? I notice someone already owns communisttaxattorney. Is that you too?

  5. Chris Devonshire-Ellis Says:

Thanks for your comments guys. Yes, an oversight by our admin meant the domain name cropped up on public view when searched for. Regrettably there’s a few people out there based in China who like to spoil the fun and details of who owned it got posted on a handful of websites there. Spoilers huh ? As for Communisttaxattorney, thats not ours - copycats already perhaps? Anyway, the site will look great, we have a lot of neat content, and some very interesting people lined up to contribute, so we hope you’ll enjoy it. The 1st May launch date seems totally appropriate!

If anyone out there wishes to have content featured on this site, please contact Rita.lee@communisttaxlawyer.com. Rita is a Harvard grad who has just joined us to assist with content research for this site.

  7. Steven Rocwsyski Says:

    Chris,

I love what you are doing on your various sites, but might you be stretching yourself a bit too thin. It seems your Vietnam Briefing stuff is going nowhere and I for one would love to see you focus on that site before going even farther afield with this new venture. Please assure us fans that you have the bandwidth to take on all of this while you still remain the vibrant lawyer that you are.

  8. Andy Scott Says:

    Dear Steven,

Please bear with us in regards to the Vietnam Briefing site. We have just spent considerable time getting India Briefing up and running, in the next week or so will focus on Vietnam Briefing. The current site is temporary, and the website will be up and running with daily content as well as a downloadable pdf magazine soon.

    Regards,
    Andy
