An Invitation to Attend Business Advisory Council Meeting: UNDP Regional Entity for China, Russia, Mongolia and Korea

May 31 – The Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI) is the regional United Nations Development Program body responsible for business-to-government and government-to-government activities in China, Russia, Mongolia and Korea. It provides a unique multilateral forum for the member countries to identify and implement regional initiatives that encourage economic growth, multinational investment and infrastructure, improve regional living standards, and contribute to peace and stability in the northeast Asia region.

On behalf of Mr. James Zimmerman, the chairman of the GTI Business Advisory Council (BAC), the GTI BAC Secretariat, in conjunction with China Briefing, takes this opportunity to invite our readers to attend an informational meeting and reception of the GTI BAC to learn more about the BAC, its activities, and how your company can join and participate in the organization’s programs.

The GTI is a joint mechanism of the four member countries: China, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation. It is supported by the UNDP and other donors.

The BAC of the GTI is a platform for permanent dialogue between government and private sectors, established with the support of the United Nations Office for Partnership. The BAC has a current membership of approximately 60 members, consisting of senior business leaders from northeast Asia and foreign investors operating in the region. It is private sector led and funded.

The council is also a platform to provide a dialogue, information exchange, advocacy, networking (through business delegations, member surveys, position papers, websites, matchmaking) for companies active and interested in the GTI region. The BAC has held prior meetings in Vladivostok (Nov 2007), Ulaanbaatar (March 2008, February 2010), Changchun (Sept 2009, April 2010), Shanghai (March 2008), Beijing (October 2009), and has upcoming meetings in Manzhouli (June 2010) and Changchun (September 2010).

This is a unique opportunity to learn more about business opportunities and bilateral trade in this fascinating region and to meet with senior executives from both the public and private sectors. It will be of special interest to all businesses involved with commerce in northeast China, Russia, Mongolia and the Korean Peninsula. Attendance is complimentary, food and drinks will be provided. 1. Chris Devonshire-Ellis says:

This will truly be a unique occasion to meet business leaders and officials from the region and promises to be a fascinating event for people to learn about the GTI, its roles, responsibilities and what it can offer. I urge businesses involved in North-East China and beyond to come and see what’s going on and the opportunities that exist in trade and development through the GTI. – Chris
