China Railway Express has launched a freight service running from South-Central Hebei Smart Port in Gaoyi County, Shijiazhuang through to Moscow as part of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development Programme.

Hebei province-based freight forwarder Yibo Holding chairman Liu Ruiling said: “The launch of the train is expected to open up a thoroughfare for the movement of freight between Shijiazhuang and Russia. We are looking forward to building a convenient trade bridge not only for manufacturers in Shijiazhuang but also companies in nearby Beijing and Tianjin as well as throughout Hebei province that are interested in expanding into Russian, Central Asian and even European markets.”

The route extends northwards from Shijiazhuang into Inner Mongolia and up to Manzhouli on the border with Russia. It then joins the main Trans-Siberian line heading West to Moscow.

The express route is just under 9,000 km and takes 13 days.

Jing Shiming, the Deputy General Manager of China Railway Beijing Bureau Group said that it is expected that by 2020, the trade volume between China and Europe via Russia will reach US$1 trillion, and the demand for land container transportation market will increase.

To reach 50-600,000 TEU (standard containers), the development prospects are very broad.

“With the joint efforts of the railways, local governments, and the corporate community, they will use their respective resource endowments to jointly create a large channel for China-Europe and Central Asia and a large logistics structure, inspiring new economic vitality and new market potential in Asia and Europe and bringing Asia and Europe together,” Jing said.

“The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei exchanges in all aspects have been upgraded to new levels, new levels, and new realms, and they have made greater contributions to Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and countries along the Belt and Road initiative.”
