The US and NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan is expected to be completed by September 11 this year just 10 weeks away. That will leave a security gap that both China and Russia, as well as Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, are extremely concerned about. In this week’s BRI Intelligence we provide an overview of how China’s perceived problem with the Uyghurs in its western Xinjiang Province, which shares a border with Afghanistan, is impacted by this momentous event. We also look at how Afghanistan’s neighbors have been developing as part of the BRI infrastructure and trade potential that could be imperiled if war breaks out in the region again.

This week, we feature Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.

We share content details and provide links to the new and highly detailed Refinitiv Belt and Road Infrastructure report and take a look South, to how India is a useful base for accessing South Asian markets via the SAARC Free Trade bloc and to Indonesia for an examination of its Special Economic Zones.
