Eastern Cities Following China’s Go West Incentives

Aug. 25 – We’ve had a number of queries today concerning tax incentives in China’s Western regions, relating to an article we published here earlier in the month: Tax Clarification Released For China’s Western Regions.

Apparently, elements of this article have been cut and pasted online elsewhere, mentioning that within the Western regions are included the Tujia and Miao Autonomous Counties in western Hunan and Hubei Provinces, as well as the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province. From a geographical standpoint, these regions are not part of the Chinese government’s defined Western regions. However, it should be noted that in the original article published by us, we noted that the counties and prefectures above “may refer to the western region taxation policy when implementing their own taxation policy.”

We can confirm that the status as concerns the tax policy of China’s Western regions has indeed been adopted, under approval, from a number of other ethnically diverse regions in China, including the regions stated in Western Hunan, Hubei and Jilin Provinces. As is always the case, readers should take advice from professional firms operating in and licensed in China for correct technical advice, and not merely rely on blogs whose main content is derived from other sources. Meanwhile, a complete overview of investment opportunities in China’s Western regions will appear in China Briefing tomorrow (Friday).
