China Customs: Imports Surge, Export Growth Down Slightly

BEIJING, Sept. 10 – Imports into China rose by 35.2 percent year-on-year to reach US$119.27 billion in August according to figures released by the General Administration of Customs on Friday.

The growth increased 12.5 percentage points from July’s figures. Meanwhile, China’s exports also increased, rising 34.4 percent in August from a year earlier to US$139.3 billion. The pace of growth, however, slowed from a high of 38.1 percent in July.

China’s trade surplus totaled US$103.9 billion in the first eight months of the year, down 14.6 percent from the same period in 2009. .
