Air transport
Chongqing Airlines, a company jointly owned by China Southern Airlines and Chongqing International Invest Co, received its first of three Airbus A319s at a ceremony held in Hamburg, Germany. The company leases the aircraft from ILFC. The first Airbus A319s can handle 122 passengers in a two-class configuration.

Cathay Pacific Airways Limited and its subsidiary, Dragonair, served approximately 2.1 million passengers in March 2009, 3.2 percent less than the same period in 2008. The companies’ airfreight business suffered a decline of 13.7 percent.

The Republic of China Consumers’ Foundation has called for a 42 percent price cut of cross-Taiwan Strait charter flights tickets. The foundation noted that despite the drop of fuel cost and travel times, some airlines have increased ticket prices by 3 percent.

Solar power
Taiwanese government officials disclosed that the country plans to invest in solar cell, wind power, biofuel, hydrogen energy and light electric vehicles and technology industries through its National Development Fund in a bid to boost its economy.

Wind power
The organizers of the 3rd China International Wind Energy Exhibition and Symposium 2009 announced that China’s installed wind power capacity will hit 20 million KW in 2009, 64 percent more than in 2008. Last year, the country saw 105 percent increase in its installed wind power capacity.

Karl-Eugen Feifel, chairman of German InfraVest Wind Power Co, said that the company will cease investments in Taiwan if the government does not take specific measures in support of its renewable energy policy. The company planned to pour some EUR 500 million or about US$664.5 million during the next five years. For the last 10 years, it has invested EUR300 million
