May 5 – From May 21 to May 22, Beijing will play host to the largest networking, communication and brand-positioning event in Asia for the world’s fastest growing IT corporations. CHINICT [pronounced China-ICT] aims to bring together established industry heavyweights with up and coming IT companies, providing insight into market trends and introducing cutting-edge technologies. CHINICT founder Franck Nazikian recently took time out of his busy schedule to talk with China Briefing.

What is CHINICT?
CHINICT is the largest event focused on IT entrepreneurship in Asia. We started it because we came to the conclusion five years ago that China was fast becoming a new El Dorado for IT entrepreneurs – no t only from China but around the world – and that many of the most promising IT companies in the near future will come from China – meaning the next Microsoft, the next Google and so on. So that’s how we started this event. And the idea, right from the beginning, was to be able to consolidate the whole IT entrepreneurship industry around the rising stars in this industry; meaning tomorrow’s Huawei, tomorrow’s Alibaba, tomorrow’s Google, tomorrow’s Microsoft. So that we put together alongside the most promising start-ups, the stock exchanges, the main venture capital firms such as Sequoia Capital [and] Draper Fisher Jurvetson, also the main goods companies and the main media groups and the main entities from governments which are active in the space of IT entrepreneurship.

What do you hope to accomplish with the upcoming conference in Beijing?
Basically what we hope to accomplish is to spread this vision – the global theme of the conference is going to be China Unlimited to point out that first we are still in a very fast growing sector. IT entrepreneurship is still a very fast growing sector worldwide, even with the current crisis. And second, China is the fastest growing market in the world, so basically if you combine these two things, IT entrepreneurship on the fastest growing market, we can definitely talk about earning peak potential like Microsoft will do during the conference or unlimited possibilities, like we do as a global theme for the event.

Has there been a shift in IT to Asia as a result of the global financial crisis?
Actually this shift had already started long before the crisis I would say. The current crisis is definitely increasing the phenomenon of global IT entrepreneurship based in China; for cost reasons, but also for the availability of talent. Today you can find fantastic talent here in China, not only from Chinese but also from foreigners who are pretty unlucky to find a new job in Silicon Valley or anywhere else and who come to China to find new opportunities.

Why should someone go to the conference?
The conference is very upscale, most of the VIPs of our industry, whether they be part of a venture capital firms, or blue chips ,or start-ups, or stock exchanges, or government officials, they all come to our conference to basically focus on the IT entrepreneurship. So if you are an IT executive or IT entrepreneur you definitely would like to CHINICT where first you’ll be able to network with the key decision-makers in our industry. You’ll be able also to communicate through the different media platforms we have at the event. And last (but not least) you’ll be able to get inspired because, if you consider the agenda right now, we [will] put onstage the most inspiring executives and entrepreneurs in the industry.

CHINICT will be held at the Crowne Plaza Parkview Wuzhou Hotel in Beijing on May 21 and May 22. To register for the event or for more information, please visit the conference website.
