Oct. 19 – American beverage giant Coca-Cola continues to invest heavily into China with the opening of its newest RMB600 million bottling plant in Wuhan, Hubei Province.

It will be Coca-Cola’s largest single still beverage investment in China thus far with an annual production capacity of 1 billion beverage bottles that includes  bottled water, tea and fruit juice beverages and dairy beverages. The company remains undaunted by the challenges of doing business in the country even after its failed bid to buy China’s largest juicemaker, China Huiyuan Juice Group, following an anti-trust investigation in March.

The company wants to to expand its manufacturing capacity to 300 million unit cases by the end of the year to meet growing demand. “Today, still beverages are growing to contribute more than 30 percent of Coca-Cola’s sales in China, the world’s second-largest beverage producer after the United States,” Doug Jackson, president of Coca-Cola China said in a statement.

He added: “China has also clearly shown the potential in the still beverage market as the Chinese consumers maintained high demand in non-carbonated drinks.”

Coca-Cola has been developing a strong manufacturing network across the country with plants in 11 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen in Fujian province and Dongguan in Guangdong Province reports China Daily.

Senior director of Coca-Cola Bottlers Manufacturing (Dongguan) Company  told China Daily: “In the Wuhan plant, two of the four production lines will be used to make Minute Maid Pulpy Super Milky and its related juicy dairy products.”
