BEIJING, Sept. 25 – Jim Zimmerman, chairman of Amcham China, has just done a wonderful thing and entered into the China Daily newspaper competition to select four foreigners living in China to carry the Olympic torch amongst the many locals selected as it nears Beijing for the opening ceremony. As the competition states, “in an effort to see those who embody the Olympic spirit of striving for excellence and contributing to the building of a harmonious society.”

Jim ZimmermanNow we’re all for harmony at Dezan Shira & Associates, and especially when it comes to seeing middle aged senior partners of law firms in shorts and singlets flexing their thigh muscles and pecs in the name of society – Jim also being the head honcho in Beijing for the New York firm Squire Sanders Dempsey. We rather like the idea of yelling “Go Jimbo go!” as he hurtles down Jianguomennai in spandex shorts.

Seriously, Jim is a great guy and we’d like to invite all Americans in China to cast their vote. His picture is reproduced here,  and if you scroll through the entries, click on it when you see it, and register your vote, it’s that simple. The page to vote on is here.

(Rumors that the special event for the 2008 Olympics is a mandatory double marathon run along the Great Wall for all foreign lawyers in China and is sponsored by the Ministry of Justice compliance department have yet to be confirmed, however).

Jim – Good luck!!!
