Tibet and the Dalai Lama(s) have only ever really had and sold one commodity: Buddhism. When China became offically athiest it found it didn't need to trade alms or obtain 'spiritual recognition' and blessing from Tibet anymore and Tibets only reason to exist independently was snuffed out.

Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama continues to trade spiritual blessings as a commodity from India. It is frankly, all he and the Tibetans have. Packaged new age Buddhism anyone? It's an industry, and no qualification to run a modern country.

Insightful piece Chris and thanks for having the balls to put up these more unpopular, yet more honest comments. People generally do not recognise the role China plays in the Himalayas and giving a difficult region stability. Well said.
