Good site this one. Here’s some news from the FT, about the weather causing problems in the metal industries in China - steel, aluminium, lead & zinc production facilities all being hit due to inability to get coal and coke as raw material into positions to sustain the works. The London metals exchange has reported a rise of 10.7 % this past week on aluminum and it’s largest one day gain for 20 years on the back of this. LME prices for lead and zinc have also gone up by nearly 10% and 7% the last few days, while Ford, & Mazda have closed in Nanjing and Nissan, Honda and Toyota all at least one of their China plants as they can’t get the steel in place. A good China slide show on the weather conditions is here: www.ft.com/chinaparalysis
This problem is going to get worse before it gets better.

There’s a piece on the clean up here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/china/story/0,,2249179,00.html

Mr. Vettoretti’s comments are true about workers leaving probably not to return I think a lot of companies will have to recruit in the New year as people just don’t come back. But theres plenty who will replace them for unskilled labour. Semi-skilled takes time to train so QC problems will come back again in the summer.
