China & India – Complementary or Contrasting?

One might assume that China and India are mirror images of each other. They have different systems of government, attitude to FDI and excel in contrary economic sectors. yet however the two countries are not as distinct as chalk and cheese. In a freewheeling talk with McKinsey’s Director of Publishing Rik Kirkland, Harvard Business School’s professor of strategy Tarun Khanna weaves together India and China’s similarities as they together emerge strong nations rebuilding trust and reshaping the contours of business. Communist Nations In Asia
The Asian region can proudly boast to house the most number of communist nations. North Korea, China, Laos and Vietnam all conform to the communist one party Marxist-Leninist view. Meanwhile, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Burma, Japan, Pakistan, Philippines, and Sri Lanka all have large political parties that still claim to follow Marxism-Leninism ideologies. (2point6billion)

China Sees Separatist Threats
In a white paper on national defense released by the State Council, the paper said that “China’s security situation has improved steadily,” but that “being in a stage of economic and social transition, China is encountering many new circumstances and new issues in maintaining social stability.” According to the NY Times, the paper portrayed China as a power that would use military force only defensively and sees territorial integrity as the top defense priority. Vietnam Reduces SME Tax By 30 Percent
The Vietnamese government has announced that it would cut corporate income tax for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by 30 percent starting from the fourth quarter of 2008 throughout this year. The Ministry of Finance said SMEs in the doing business in the agricultural, seafood, textiles and garments, footwear and electronic industry would be qualified for the tax cut. (Vietnam Briefing)

India Mulls Over Third Stimulus Package in February
Inflation rates which have fallen by more than 50 percent since October last year have boosted the government exchequer encouraging the state to reveal a third stimulus package. On Monday, commerce and industry minister Kamal Nath announced that the government was likely to introduce a third stimulus package in February. “The government will continue to inject adequate funds and will continuously provide stimulus to the domestic demand-driven economy,” the minister told the Times of India. United States Plans New Afghan Supply Routes Through Central Asia
The U.S. military will add to its supply routes in Pakistan by opening new routes that will give troops in Afghanistan access through Russia and other countries in Central Asia. “It is very important as we increase the effort in Afghanistan that we have multiple routes that go into the country,” said U.S. General David Petraeus.
